Joy Comes in the Morning

It was about 1980 something, and my mother had killed herself, I was diagnosed with lupus and the docs didn't think I was going to make it. I had been recovering from alcoholism & drug abuse for a short time and I went to a writing workshop. I met this woman who had a similar history to mine, and her husband had just passed away. She had mountains of reasons to be depressed, yet she was reading us a poem of how she found joy in watching the birds at the feeder, the way she used to do with her husband. At first I thought she was looney, but then it stopped me cold. I realized that this woman wasn't just waiting for joy to show up and announce itself, she was looking for it and expecting it. This is when I began to learn about the discipline of joy, and this song came very quickly after I did a bible word search for "Joy".

Joy comes in the morning,
You walk with me all day long.
Joy comes in the evening,
And You watch over me all
night long.

(Chorus)
Joy comes in the morning,
Joy comes all day long,
Joy comes in the evening,
When You sing to me Your
Song.

Sing to me Your Precious Song,
Lift me up with Your arms so strong.
Touch me with Your tender hands,
See me with Your heart.

You remember me when I'm gone from you.
You forgive the pain that I put You through.
In the darkest skies, You write Your Name
And I know You always share my pain.

I want to walk with You in the morning.
I want to love You all night long.
I want to bless You as You have blessed me,
So I'll keep on singing my life long.
